Home Remedy for Warts

Warts have been around forever and are a very common occurrence. Ever since there have been warts there have been home remedies to try and eliminate them. A lot of these remedies are quite popular because they work and they make physicians' treatments pale by comparison.

Warts are benign skin tumors that are caused by at least 80 different members of the papalomavirus. Most warts appear on the hands (Common warts) and on the feet (Plantar warts). Researchers have observed that individuals with suppressed immune systems are far more susceptible to warts than those with healthy immunity.

Birch and Willow Oil

Birch and willow oil have been used to treat warts around the world for centuries. They contains compounds that have shown antiviral activity. They also contains salcylates which are approved by the FDA to treat warts and can be found in most over the counter wart medicines.

Bloodroot

Bloodroot ointment contains skin irritant compounds and enzymes, substances that help dissolve proteins such as wart infected tissue. It's suggested to apply directly to the wart.

Castor

Many people have recommended castor bean oil for warts. It's suggested to massage the oil directly into the wart several times a day until the wart has been eliminated. You can also add additional oils to the castor bean oil to further improve it's efficacy. For example, try adding garlic, basil, willow, or yellow cedar oils for improved results.

Celandine

Celandine contains some of the same compounds as Bloodroot. It has been shown that celandine juice can inhibit the wart virus or even kill it. It's suggested to apply the yellow juice directly to the wart twice a day for 7 days.

Fig

Figs contain an enzyme known as ficin and is rich in proteolytic enzymes. In many cultures people use figs for wart treatment. They use the white milky substance that comes out of the fruit and twigs. It's suggested to apply once a day for 7 days.

Pineapple

Pineapple is another remedy that is rich in proteolytic enzymes. It's suggested to cut a square of pineapple peel and tape the inner side of the peel to the wart and leave it on overnight. Remove the pineapple in the morning and soak the wart in warm water. Stubborn warts may require additional applications.

Soybean

Soybeans are an old Chinese medical treatment for warts. It's suggested to eat only plain, water-boiled yellow soybean sprouts, without seasonings or salt, three times a day for three days.

Yellow Cedar

Naturopaths suggest applying the oil of yellow cedar to warts, it contains antiviral compounds. It's suggested to apply the oil to the wart twice a day for several weeks.

Banana

It's suggested to scrape the inside of the banana peel and apply the white paste to the wart two to four times a day for 7 days.

Basil

This aromatic herb contains many antiviral compounds. It's suggested to apply / rub crushed basil leaves on the wart and cover with a bandage. Reapply the leaves, cover with a new bandage and repeat daily for 7 days.

Papaya

Folk healers around the world suggest using papaya juice for removing warts. Apply the juice from a fresh papaya directly to the warts twice a day for 7 days.

Adhesive Tape (Duct Tape)

Place adhesive tape over the wart. Do not remove the tape for 7 days. Then take off the tape and open the area to the air for 12 hours. Reapply the adhesive tape for another 7 days. Adhesive tape works because the airtight, moist environment under the tape will not allow the wart virus (HPV) to grow.

*Some of the home remedies listed here can irritate the skin. Everyone's skin is different, if you try one of these home remedies and it seems to make the skin around the wart irritated, rinse the area thoroughly and discontinue use of this home remedy. Try another remedy, there is bound to be other natural remedies that are less irritating to your skin.
